Songs from “The Wiz,” “West Side Story,” Godspell” and “Flight” performed by members of LSU’s Musical Theater Club entertained the Baton Rouge Music Club and guests at the annual scholarship luncheon. group studies on March 22.
Welcoming everyone was the president of the club Victor Klimachwho presented Todd McQueen, dean of the LSU College of Music and Dramatic Arts. McQueen shared information about the many concerts taking place this spring.
The lunch also included table prizes, determined by the musical name printed on the programs, and a silent auction. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do it this year. This club, under the direction of the faculty sponsor Terry Patrick Harrisis always brimming with talent, and this year they sang some Broadway favorites, including “New York, New York,” “Somewhere,” “Maria” and “Brand New Day.”
Interpreters included Brooke Bethancourt, Jessica Branas, Emma Burlette, Savannah Chaisson, Tony Collins, Bryonna Crockett, Anna Deshotels, Gabi Evans, Summer Hayes, Haleigh Jones, Emily LeBlanc, Emily Loe, Thomas Luke and Walter Miller.
are also effective Ethan Olsen, Katelyn Prescott, Ren Price, Alexis Ryder, Anna Safko, Elizabeth Schmitt, Alana Scott, Anna Shaw, Jamarcus Smith, Michael Stewart, Jonathan Thomas, Tarus Tolbert and Taylor Villemarette.
Evans also served as musical director for the performances, and Collins handled the choreography. To complete the technical ending, the pianist Louis Wendtdrummer Myles Garverbass player Pat Lavergneconductor/arranger/guitarist Brian Breenstage manager Brandon Persian and sound technician The LeBlancs.
Providing background music during lunch was John Dupaquier and friends Jan Dupre, David Randall, John Gerbrecht and Sam Irwin.
